How to score Band 7 in IELTS Writing Task 2

Most students lose marks on Task 2 not because of grammar, but because of structure. Here is the four-paragraph framework that works.

Writing Task 2 is worth two thirds of your Writing band. The single biggest lift you can get is fixing your essay structure.

Here is the framework I recommend to every student:

1. Introduction (40 to 50 words). Paraphrase the question, then state your position clearly.

2. Body paragraph one. One main idea, one example, one short consequence sentence.

3. Body paragraph two. A second main idea — ideally one that contrasts or balances the first. Same shape: idea, example, consequence.

4. Conclusion (35 to 45 words). Restate the position and tie the two ideas together. Do not introduce new ideas.

Aim for 270 to 290 words. Less than 250 will be penalised; more than 320 increases your error rate. Practise three essays a week with the InkAcademy AI grader and you will see your Task 2 band climb within a month.
